A principal of Brain & Spine Surgeons of New York since 1990, Dr. Kornel is at the forefront of minimally invasive neurosurgery (MIS). MIS is used to minimize the trauma of surgery and increase the speed of recovery. Stemming from his interest in microsurgery, Dr. Kornel has become an expert in minimally invasive endoscopic surgery of the spine as well as minimally invasive approaches in the surgical treatment of brain tumors. Because of his particular interest in cervical spine surgery, he is one of the first neurosurgeons in the New York metropolitan area to replace damaged cervical discs with the newly introduced artificial discs.
Dr. Kornel was trained in Stockholm in the use of the Gamma Knife and, when indicated, utilizes this stereotactic radiosurgical technique for the treatment of brain tumors as well as for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. He is the director of the Institute for Neurosciences at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, NY and is affiliated with many of the leading hospitals in the area.
Dr. Kornel gained his initial expertise during his neurosurgical residency at the George Washington University Medical Center under the tutelage of Hugo Rizzoli, M.D., at the time one of the most renowned and respected neurosurgeons in the world. Dr. Kornel also has numerous mentions in the biography of James Brady, press secretary to President Reagan, because of his involvement in Mr. Brady’s care after his tragic gunshot injury. Highly personalized attention combined with the utmost dedication to the ultimate well-being of his patients is what motivates Dr. Kornel in his efforts to continue expanding and honing his expertise.

“I couldn't go another day without mentioning how great I think Brain Spine & Surgery is and my doctor, Dr. Kornel, was to me. I went to many doctors complaining about the pain in my back. All they did was inject shots into my back that did absolutely nothing for me. Then, I made an appointment with Dr. Kornel. He went over my MRIs and suggested surgery due to a herniated disc that also showed bone fragments floating around. The surgery was a same-day procedure with no pain whatsoever. After many years of suffering and not being able to sit, walk, or stand for a long period of time, I now felt 20 years younger. Dr. Kornel is the only doctor who listened, and took the time to understand my complaints.”
“Amazing, Amazing, Amazing doctor!!!! He took the time to read my three MRIs, my EMG...he is caring and compassionate...I highly highly, highly recommend him!!!!”
“I recently went to Dr. Ezriel Kornel for a consultation. He was very professional and I did not have to wait long. It did not take him long to give me an honest and straight forward answer. It was a great pleasure for me to meet with him and I got an appointment right away…Although I'm afraid of surgeries in general, I know he will keep me safe. Doctors and patients should have trust and work as a team. Together you can accomplish a great deal. Thank you very much.”
“Wonderful kind skilled neurosurgeon who did an amazing job on my neck.”
“Dr. Kornel is an exceptional human being and doctor. He explained what my back issues were and was always available to help me and performed an excellent procedure on my spine. His assistant Beverly couldn't be nicer or more efficient and helpful as well. Great experience. Thank you.”
“He is honest, trustworthy and truly compassionate. After 11 years of pain after a work injury, he was a miracle worker on my cervical spine. It's been little over a year and ALL symptoms have resolved and the scar on my neck is so subtle I need to point it out to anyone to actually see it.”
“Exceptional doctor and amazing human being. Wonderful bedside manner. Truly cares about his patients and their condition. I have total trust in him and wish he could be my everything doctor. Have had three spinal surgeries performed by him over 13 years. Relief from chronic back pain was his gift to me.”
